Delusional Illusion

How do you define and prove your existence in the universe?

Since thinking about that, I have started to explore the relationship between light and shadow. When two lights interlacing on one object, the intersection would construct shadows on it. This action might tell the existence of the object.

In the first series of work, SELF-PORTRAIT, I am centred by two lights to establish the mystery in between. The long time exposure alters hair changing with every movement. Whereas black and unseen part of the head, it becomes blurring and transparent during the overlaying images. These photographs demonstrate the time, transfer and shape to trace my anima. Nevertheless, the blurry and disappearing seem unsure of the actuality.

EXIST! EXIST?, the expansion work from SELF-PORTRAIT, creates an illusion atmosphere to question the spirit or the body is existing. The main elements in this series construct by darkness section and nearly transparent part. The black shape represents the shadows at present, while the uncertain space shows the future and surreal. However, the dust on photographs seems the other form that we exist after death.

Shadow is the impression of the actual world, but it can be seen in a different form or meaning. Due to life experience, some shape of shadows presents symbols as common. Some apparition may be reflected from the inside heart then believe it exists. Although this shows our imagination that over the established impression,  It would be confused from reality.

Through these two practices, more of the concept is about discovering self-existence even from physical or spiritual. The aim of the work is enquiring the circumscription of existence to viewers. Without a soul, will life be different? If seeing is not believing, what could you trust? While a dream becomes real, how do you distinguish that is accurate? There is not any correct answer to dominate and control every individual life.

By scientific proofing, following the law of conservation of mass, I believe after people die the spirit and the dust still keep in the air. Some of the religionism believe these atoms will reorganize and human will reborn. No matter what the form will become, human exists from the start to the end of the world.

From these artworks, self-existence is the intention that I assume to figure out. Memories, movements and times are essential to establish. Through this exhibition, I strongly feel confidence by expressing myself, like chewing bubble gum.

The existence of human is just like the bubble.

It grows by an outside force.

It has a circle of life.

It is fragile.

It pops.

The Worsinger albums were a really exciting discovery; the pictures feel like they might come alive, as if the mannequins would pick up the bags beside them and put on the shoes. Another discovery was the work of Robert Brownjohn, an American graphic designer who photographed the signage and typography on London streets in the 1960s. He collected these vernacular visual references as inspiration for his own work. This interested me because I too like to photograph aspects of urban life when I travel, to use as material later in my process.
